The automatic update KB958215 (secutity update for Windows Internet Explorer 7), installed on dec 10, causes Internet Explorer 7 to fail. I had to remove this update to get back to normal. Any comment or suggestion?

I installed the 32bit edition of the update without issues – http://www.microsoftpost.com/microsoft-download/cumulative-security-update-for-internet-explorer-for-windows-xp-kb958215/
Since you used Automatic Update however to install the update, I assume you got the right one.
