Hi,
I have Vista Home Premium 64 bit on a Intel Quad Q9000 with a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650. I have the auto update feature turned on.
When prompted, I recently installed KB973879 along with KB970653 and KB972036. After installing the updates, my computer crashed with the blue screen. I don’t recall the error.
After uninstalling KB970653, the problem did not reappear.
Brian Schick.

@Brian Schick,
Exactly the same for me this morning – installed these updates and got the dreaded blue crash screen…I uninstalled KB973879 in safe mode and (kept the others) and the problem has gone away – Microsoft update still wants me to download it – guess I will hide it away until more information is available. (I have HP Pavillion Dv7 Notebook, Vista Home Premium 64 bit on a Intel Quad Q9000 with a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650) I am using Service Pack 1 – (earlier, installing service pack 2 wreaked my computer and I had to do a complete re-install) – CB

After downloading & installing KB973879 update in my 64 bit vista, computer crushed. Repeated attempt to boot the computer normally failed. Then I boot it at safe mode & using restore-point I can then boot it normally. I am surprised that what sort of updates are Microsoft providing? What is the purpose of an update? To destroy the computer & operating system or to increase stability & security? Is it not better to off the update option, which is more safe & secure? This is a good example that what can occur if an update is posted without rigorous checking & rechecking. It has also be observed that any update which involves chip-set/processor or BIOS lead to some sort of serious problem with the computer & operating system! So before posting any update Microsoft must be very cautious in future,otherwise we have no option to avoid downloading any update at all in future.

Wow… lot’s of issues with this patch. Hopefully Microsoft is looking at these issues (I hope)…
