the update has killed my network adapter or something. I am writing this from my iPhone which is using the same network as my computer. My computer can bring up some pages, like google, but just hangs when trying to bring up this one as well as many others. Anyone have any idea why the update caused this?

Ouch….
I have yet to install this on any of my vista boxes. Sounds very odd however that you can pull up some pages but not all???
11/2/08 Update
Unfortunately the KB article KB957200 has not been posted yet on the Microsoft site.Looks like the KB has been posted now – http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957200 however it speaks to mainly resolving issues with Windows Error reporting…. Odd considering the download page talks about performance and reliability with no mention about the Windows Error Reporting….I’ll go ahead and install the update on my Vista VM box and let you know what the outcome is.

After installing this update, by Taskbar was completely blank. I twiddled with settings, rebooted, and finally made it not autohide, and it came back to “normal”.

@cutts, I had the same problem! My internet failed to load some pages. I uninstalled the update today, and everything is working fine again!
I would really like to know what causes this problem too, cause I am not downloading that update again, unless anyone knows a solution??
Well…. I finished up the install this morning of KB957200 and I’m not having any of the issues you all are reporting.
@Fietje – @Cutts – Which websites were not working for you after you installed?
@Jim – I’m not sure about the Taskbar issues but plz note that a reboot is required after the update.
Keep me posted

Different kinds of websites are not working, one minute a website is working fine and the next minute it’s not. I have also installed Foxmarks on Firefox, and when it tries to synchronize when websites aren’t working it says: Bad gateway. 1 minute later when everything is fine, it can synchronize perfectly again…Sometimes ctrl+F5 is helping, but not always.
This problem is getting very annoying, even when I remove the updates the problem still exists. I did system recovery, that helped, but programs weren’t working good anymore so I cancelled the recovery. Maybe I should try to go back to 1 week ago, but I’m afraid my programs aren’t working anymore then (like my Avast antivirus who gave an error and could’nt load because files were gone…)

@Fietje – Hmm. Puzzling. Although the problems don’t “appear” to have hit you until “after” the update being installed, there is a chance you began having problems before the update.?.? I’m curious because if you did an uninstall of the update AND system restore to before the update, it’s starting to smell fishy that something else might be going on.
You should take a look at your logs to see when the issues really started. For instance, perhaps you can open up EventVwr (Click Start button then type in EventVwr> and look in your Application and System logs. What your looking for is error messages which your seeing now on the system. Then go back to see how long they have been occurring in the logs.
Essentially what were trying to do is make sure this Update is not just a Red Herring when there’s something bigger going on with your system.
If you find that errors happening today were also occurring BEFORE the update, now we have another direction to go. Perhaps your Hard Drive has a few bad sectors and is failing? (You should see drive errors in your system log) or perhaps a piece of Malicious code is on your box? Or perhaps it’s a different update that you installed along with the KB957200 update.?
Keep us updated!

@MrGroove: First of all, thanks for your anwer.
I am absolutely sure that the problem began right after the updates. Because I use the websites, which aren’t working good, everyday, I noticed it immediately.
I took a look at the logs. The application logs seem fine, no ‘Warnings’ or ‘Errors’ or anything like that, that are curious. In the System log I found lots of ‘Warnings’ and ‘Errors’. For example:
– TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts. But that warning has occured since I bought the pc (15-08-2008), so I don’t think this is important.
– Unable to initialize the security package Kerberos for server side authentication. But when I click on Online Help, it says you can ignore this error, so this doesn’t seem important too.
The rest of the Warnings are pretty common, and I didn’t find any Warning or Error that started last week.
My PC is almost 3 months old (Acer Aspire M3640, 4GB), so it’s pretty bad if something’s wrong with it already. I also scanned my pc with different anti-spyware programs and stuff, they all found nothing. I thought maybe the problem was Java, so I updated that today, it seemes better now, but it’s still not perfect! It’s mostly websites that use a lot of ‘things’ (big websites, not sure how to say this in English), that aren’t loading well, for example http://www.hyves.nl. So that’s why I thought the problem was Java.
Maybe something else to note: when I try to search in FF with google it doesn’t load a thing, but when I typ google.com in the addressthing it works! Most of the time I have to hit Enter more than once, then suddenly it loads (but this doesn’t always do the tric).
Tomorrow they are going to do some work on the cable and stuff here in the neighbourhood, so I am hoping the problem is my provider instead of my system…Otherwise I will wait for another update and hope that will solve my problem!

@Fietje – Dude, i’ve installed this on 3 computers and i’ve never had an issue with my installs. I even installed it on 1 Virtual Vista box (running on my XP machine).
Anyway, it sounds like you have some serious issues. you should not have aborted the system restore. did you even run that again? for having a machine only 4 months old you should NO WAY be having these issue. You should grab a CD and rebuild. the problems you have are lame! 4GB or memory – OMG – that’s huge.
rebuild your Vista box with x64 , take advantage of all the ram and move on.
good luck bro!

oh – and I really don’t think its your ISP problem. Sounds like a software issue. :(
